Justin: Hello out there in the land of the blog! My name is Justin Peterson, and I am the writer and director of A Lover’s Scent. On behalf of the whole crew, I would like to welcome you to A Lover’s Blog. We here at A Lover’s Scent are committed to giving you, the fans, unprecedented access to the people and the ideas that will come to shape this little movie of ours. And so while we will be recording our entire, production journey for a documentary entitled, “The Making of…A Lover’s Scent,” we will also be blogging throughout the process. The hope is that these blogs will give you an insight into the daily dramas and raw emotions that will come to shape A Lover’s Scent. For instance, yesterday was our first, big production meeting. This meant we got a chance to sit down with our executive producer, Alex Cuthbertson. Alex comes to us with plenty of studio experience and so the hope is that he will provide a sort of stabilizing force, particularly when it comes to the film’s budget. So, the meeting was mostly logistics. However, there was this moment of brilliance that happened right at the end when we started working through the script itself. Suddenly, we were three artists united in the act of crafting something beautiful. In a lot of ways, it reminded me of my time on the set of my student film Faccia di Merde. This was the happiest time of my life because I was immersed in the act of creation. For those of you who have seen Faccia…, then you know the cyclopean squirrel scene. This is where the hero meets what can only be described as his shadow, in the form of a cyclopean squirrel named Giocchino. You’ll all be surprised to learn that this scene came from a 16-hour creation session that I had with my then-muse Daffodil. It was a magical, magical moment. I guess it’s those moments of magic that we’re all looking for here.
